Record Car Count At QMA’s Region 9 States Race

Monroe, WA – June 1, 2008 – This past weekend the Washington Quarter Midget Association hosted the first ever combination Region 9 Race and States Race with a total of 219 cars signed in for the grands format style event. Warm and sunny weather greeted the participants from around the northwest for practice on Friday but on Saturday morning Mother Nature kept playing hide and seek with the sun as handlers made their final adjustments for qualifying.

After a round of Novice practice the first class to go out for timing was Jr. Honda. After 28 cars qualified it was a trio of WQMA drivers taking the top 3 spots. Chase Ostman topped the list with fast time and a new track record while Peyton Reed and Hunter Crum followed closely behind.

There were 35 entries in the tough Senior Honda division. The fastest of all of them was Little Wheel’s Trevor Deaver who continued the onslaught of track records. He was followed by Racing Rascal’s C.J. Hawley with 2nd fast time and then Kayla Pittman also from Little Wheels with 3rd fast time.

In the Heavy Honda division it was Langley’s Brayden Planko earning the new track record and fast time while club mate Nick Schaffert was second fast and Little Wheels Jacob Botsford had third fast time.

Portland Junior Novices Brooke Schimmel and Kole Raz were 1st and 3rd fast while Little Wheel’s Courtney Cooper finished with 2nd fast time. In the Senior Novice division Little Wheels drivers Max Schroeder and Dana Geary were finished 1st and 3rd fastest times and WQMA driver Garret Hanson was 2nd fastest.

The next cars to blister the track were in the Light 160 division. With thirty five cars in this group the competition was tight and times were very impressive. In the end it was Langley’s Liam Ryan with fast time followed by a pair of Portland drivers as Gracin Raz and Keegan Walmer finished 2nd and 3rd fastest.

Local WQMA driver Cierra Edison topped the field in the Heavy 160 division with her fast time and new track record. I5’s Allison Journey qualified second and Langley’s Brayden Planko finished with 3rd fast time.

In the Senior Stock division it was a trio of Portland drivers with the top 3 spots as Kady Adelman, Gracin Raz, and Tyler Walker qualified 1 – 2 – 3.

For the Light Mod field Kady Adelman barely edged Keegan Walmer for the top spot and Peter Link from Little Wheels finished with the third fastest time. Blake Wood of Little Wheels was the fast time / track record holder for the Heavy Mod division.

Next out was the Briggs World Formula class and the speeds were high as 3 cars broke under the 6.00 second mark. The fastest time and track record went again to Liam Ryan while WQMA driver’s Kiley Van Amburg and Chance Crum finished with 2nd and 3rd fast time.

In the Light B division was also swept by a trio of Portland QMRA drivers as Keegan Walmer led the way with fast time. He was followed by Dawson Loehner with 2nd fast time and Kady Adelman with second fast time.

The final three divisions all had to deal with a little moisture from the sky as mother nature believed it was time to be done with qualifying. Ultimately though, the cars got their laps in as Peter Link captured fast time for the Light AA division, Jack McGeehan was fastest of the Jr. Half class, and Aaron Stowe was quickest in Heavy AA.
